We went to Genoa, where we stayed ina flat down some labyrinthine backstreets (but I didn’t take any photos). This is a main square.
The grey-white marble facades are distinctive.

in the middle of the crowded busy town is this quiet cloister …

One evening we took the funicular railway up into to the hills behind the city.

As the sun went down we explored a fort, with drawbridge and portcullis …
From the top a view back down to the city. After this the walk back down took some time, first through woods in the twilight, then down steep streets in the dark, until we reached the port, and a tube station that took us back close to home.
Next we took a train to Pavia. Another nice place to stay, took a bus out to a monastery, ate salami and ham and so on.
Visited churches.
Went to the park whhere the lake is supplied by a pink floating tap.
Then back to Turin for a last night of food and wine. Then early next morning Barbara caught the train to London and I picked up my bike to start cycling again …
