This was on the wall of our B&B bedroom. Google translate gives this as “Our puny life is hemmed-in by sleep” something lost in translation? Maybe not.

We would now be walking along the “Passa-Pais” green-way for a week, 80km in total to Bedarieux, where we would get the train to Narbonne.

Today was our longest day for walking, 25km along the flat and easy old railway line. Variable autumn weather, clouds, sunshine, short showers.

Labastide Rouiaroux is a small village, we were staying here two nights in order to visit the textile museum, but it was closed tomorrow due to an event being staged there, it would open next day at 14:00. so we would have to rest tomorrow, visit the next day and then walk the planned 14km to St. Pons that evening.

Our B&B was a large isolated house about 2km outside town up a steep track. But the view from the bedroom balcony was good and the atmosphere of the forest pervaded pleasantly.

Dining at L-R was somewhat restricted – there was only a pizzeria, mainly a take-away, but there were a couple of tables, we were the only customers for both visits here, the pizzas were very good and huge, the cook/server was a jovial lady – and she gave me a free bottle of beer to take away.

Next day was overcast and rainy, we went into town for supplies to make an evening meal and then headed back to the B&B to have a restful day, did laundry, I slept a lot.
Barbara went into the woods to take pictures of autumn leaves,
And interesting vines.

We ate bread and cheese and fruit, I opened my beer and it frothed-up and sprayed everywhere! Perhaps it was a trick bottle – there was a lot of mopping-up to do.

October 4th, Labastide-R to St. Pons

Then lunch at the pizzeria, then at last the visit to the textile museum, which was an old weaving factory – we had a guided tour (in French) – much of interest, many of the machines manufactured in England, Manchester etc. The valley still has weaving factories that make haute-couture cloth – tweed for Chanel etc. There was a display of sporting clothing through the ages – in honour of the Olympics again.

Then back on the railway line for 14km, autumn plenty.
and a damsel at the grape harvest.
