After breakfast in our hotel apartment we set off to look at a church – the Saint Serin Basilica. It was interesting but rather a tourist attraction and crowded, also a pilgrimage church for the “Compostella” crowd.

So after that I was all touristed-out and needed a rest, so I headed back to the hotel for a lie down in a darkened room, so to speak, or to read some Trollope on my kindle perhaps. Barbara went to a photography exhibition.

We met up later to go to a concert, French Romantic pieces arranged for Harp and Organ. Idiosyncratic, but kind of nice.

next day we came across a market
A band played for the boy scouts.

We found a nice little place for Lunch in a sunny courtyard.

Mid-afternoon we went to the Opera, a version of “Alcina” – we thought it would be the one by Handel – but it was composed by Francesca Caccini in 1625 – she was a well-regarded composer, working for the Medici family in Florence. Beautiful clear singing, very good indeed. That evening of course we were starving, and ate Cassoulet in a tourist restaurant on the main drag (it being Sunday, so the local places mainly closed) – with beer and wine – it was good.

And next day the train home. We got up slowly, or I did, caught the train to Paris at 12:30, walked across Paris from Montparnasse to Gare du Nord.

through the Luxembourg Gardens, past the Pantheon, over the Isle de la Cite, past Notre Dame … etc.

We had a final luxurious “Cafe Viennoise” at a traditional pavement cafe opposite the station – and boarded the Eurostar.
