I didn’t eat a thing all day, my stomach told me not to. I lived on coffee and tea.
Valence is a pleasant town, with a nice park,

A busy Saturday market, (the mushrooms almost made me hngry) outside an uninteresting Cathedral, but near a museum with much enjoyable stuff, to my eyes.

A pieta

Art Deco book cover and teapot

Roman mosaics, the blurb says that the Eagle is saving the rabbit from being attacked by the magpie. A christian symbolic subject – I suppose I believe that.

There is also a bandstand. Which was the subject that made a newspaper illustrator famous. Raymond Peynet sketched this while waiting for an appointment in the town, the msuician is staying on in order to impress the girl in the background (the white blob, I assume), it’s called “the unfinished symphony” geddit?
Remember way back in the Vendee I passed through a village which hosted the association of newspaper illustrators. Obviously a thing in France.
Back in the hotel with two bottles of beer to put me to sleep I watched the whole of Rossini’s “Cinderella” on the telly, lovely.
