The route starts off through rolling farmland, a bit hillier, fewer crops and more cattle.

These handsome Limousin beasts. It is mating season, each bull has a harem of about 20 cows, I pass herd after herd, separated by a couple of fields each, or by a road – to stop rivalry I guess, they seem contented enough though.

There are castles, this one next to a bridge over the Vienne river, my route follows this river to Limoges.

I stop for lunch here, once again a cafe full of the English, I buy patisserie and eat it overlooking the river.

Here is the chateau at Rochouart, tonight’s destination, a shorter ride today.

The chateau has a museum of contemporary art, including this lovely sculpture mades from stalks of rye-grass. It’s about a foot high.
The hotel is nice, but a bit snooty, same food as yesterday except the duck is roast-leg and no desert (cheese today). it’s nice but everybody looks miserable! Cheer-up people!
