We bought breakfast from a street market. Sicilyan street scene.
Breakfast – fruit, olives, cheese.
We made our way through crowded streets tolook at some churches – but we were running too late, they were packed with guided tours, so we retreated to the Botanical Garden.
A lovely place, full of the smell of orange blosssom.
interesting cactus flowers …
Banyan trees …
handsome little lizards …
Water lillies and so on … also a nice restaurant.
But at last we had to go home, get changed and navigate more very crowded streets to get to …
the opera house! which is very grand.
where we saw “Norma” by Bellini. A fairly daft tragedy, but lovely singing and music, and Bellini was born in Sicily, so appropriate fare. Opera in the grand Italian style.
