That’s where I’m headed, long way up, as per.
The country now is the “causses” which means a dry high plain, sparse grazing for animals, cut up by deep steep river valleys.
here’s one, down, down, down to the bottom …
Where there is a dry river bed. After the Auvergne which is lush and flowing with streams and cascades this is quite a
contrast.
I remembered to buy some lunch today, and eat it in this stony spot.
Now to ride (walk more like) all the way up there.

This change of landscape keeps me interested, buzzards which have been companions every day so far now disappear and are replaced by kestrels, must be something about the type of prey available. Lots of butterflies now, same ones as before I think but more of them, it’s warmer.
Then the highlight of the day, a huge golden-brown bird takes off from a low tree to my right and glides slowly right over my head, maybe 20 feet up, definitely an eagle. Later another one takes-off from a fence up ahead. Looking it up later, these are golden eagles.

That’s good enough for a day’s work. Le Caylar holds my luxury B&B for two nights, tomorrow is rest day number 3. I need it.
