Today started with a very steep hill up a very rough track. 350m climbing in 3.5 km. So an average incline of 10% for three and a half kilometers. But it was another lovely cold bright morning and I was in the sunshine and mist filled the valleys below me. I walked on up for over an hour.

Views back the way I had come, that is Puy de Dome on the horizon.

That was peak number one, then another 5km further up was peak number two for the day, this was all in forested country, it was Saturday and I came across numerous people dressed differently but all having a stout walking-stick in one hand and a wicker basket in the other – mushroom hunters. Some were very successfull too, their baskets brimming with yellow mushrooms.

Looks like there are rules for mushroom hunting.

As I went up though the tracks became steeper and rougher and on the last push up to the peak it was just me and the bike. Up at the top was a viewing platform, the peak called “Mont Mouchet”, 1,497m, so I took a video of the panorama. Note the wind.

There was another descent and another peak to climb, but I was getting really tired-out. I headed for the accommodation where I had booked for two nights, by a shortcut that was mainly a long downhill winding slope. But ended with five kilometers uphill AND against that blustery wind. A day of rest now – No cycling for a whole day! I’m sick of cycling, I don’t want to touch another pair of handlebars for … at least a day. (Also it will rain all day tomorrow, and my hotel advertises a laundry service, very welcome).
